Short Courses

We teach short courses about technology-enhanced learning (TEL) issues and multimedia software applications with University Technology Training Center (UTTC) staff members from Academic and Distributed Computing Services (ADCS).

TEL Short Courses

Faculty and staff members who want to use computer technology to enhance teaching and learning may take our technology-enhanced learning (TEL) short courses. These courses cover a range of TEL topics, including how to:

  • foster active learning with PowerPoint and UMConnect, 
  • foster online communication and collaboration, and 
  • use blogs and wikis to enhance learning.

The fee for these courses is waived for any faculty member who meets these three criteria:

  1. He or she is paid through the University of Minnesota payroll.
  2. He or she is in one of the following classifications:
    • 9401 Professor
    • 9402 Associate Professor
    • 9403 Assistant Professor
    • 9404 Instructor
    • 9410 Regents Professor
  3. He or she has a tenure-track appointment.

Digital Teaching Workshop

University of Minnesota faculty and academic professional and administrative (P&A) instructors also may take our free workshop, Digital Teaching Workshop, to learn technical and pedagogical skills and begin developing technology-enhanced learning activities and materials.

TA Web Certification Program

University teaching assistants (TAs) are eligible to attend the TA Web Certification Program. The program covers educational technology strategies and the basic skills needed to create course Web sites.

Multimedia Short Courses

The University Technology Training Center (UTTC) offers non-credit short courses about how to use multimedia software such as Macromedia Flash and Adobe Photoshop. The courses are offered to the University community for reduced fees.

Customized Courses

Training tailored to address specific educational technology issues at the college, department, or program level is available to you through the DMC and ADCS. For more information, call (612) 625-2005.
