Software (Faculty Toolkit)

You may be eligible to receive the Faculty Toolkit, a collection of free and reduced-price multimedia software available to University of Minnesota instructors to use for University course development and instructional purposes.

The Faculty Toolkit is co-sponsored by the Office of Information Technology (OIT) and the Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost and developed and managed by the Digital Media Center (DMC) and Academic and Distributed Computing Services (ADCS), units of the OIT.

Eligibility

Faculty Members

The Faculty Toolkit software is provided once per year for no charge to any faculty member who meets these three criteria:

  1. He or she is paid through the University of Minnesota payroll.
  2. He or she is in one of the following classifications:
    • 9401 Professor
    • 9402 Associate Professor
    • 9403 Assistant Professor
    • 9404 Instructor
    • 9410 Regents Professor
  3. He or she has a tenure-track appointment.

Others

University of Minnesota teaching assistants and employees who do not meet the criteria above may purchase Faculty Toolkit software for the prices shown that reflect University-wide volume purchases.

Requirements

Each recipient must:

  • fully complete an agreement form and have his or her department head or manager sign it;
  • provide a course number and title for each software tool requested (unless paying);
  • obtain only ONE Macintosh or Windows version per each request; and
  • have a DVD player and burner to access/install all software.

Software versions are upgraded periodically throughout the year. To request upgrades, submit a new agreement form by following the application process below.

Application Process

The software is distributed by ADCS. You can obtain it by following the steps below.

  1. Meet eligibility requirements.
  2. Completely fill out the Agreement Form that is part of the Faculty Toolkit Application and is available for download here: The form is updated at the beginning of each fall semester. You also can obtain a copy of the application form from ADCS by calling (612) 625-1300, sending e-mail to toolkit@umn.edu, or by visiting the following Twin Cities campus locations:
    • 212 Walter Library (DMC)
    • 190 Shepherd Laboratories
    • 50 Coffey Hall
    • 93 Blegen Hall
  3. Have your department head or manager sign the form.
  4. Fax the form to (612) 625-6817, or return or mail it to:
