Linda Jorn
Director
As the director of the Digital Media Center (DMC), I work with DMC team members, central and collegiate administrators, faculty, students, and staff to support faculty as they design learner-centered blended or online learning environments. I work with DMC team members to envision and design DMC programs, services, and online resources that will help faculty create and/or re-design online learning content and environments and publish or present findings that discuss the impact of these redesigned or new learning environments on student learning.
I have been especially active in several University-wide committees that have developed and continue to develop a University-wide infrastructure for educational technology. I currently co-chair the Academic Technologies Advisory Committee and am part of the Office of Information Technology management team that supports enterprise educational technologies for over 1,700 course Web sites and 34,000 students. I also serve on the University of Minnesota TEL Council, the Council for Enhancing Student Learning, the Senate Committee on Information Technologies, and several collegiate committees. On a regional and national level, I have served on the Committee on Institutional Cooperation educational technologies Group since 1995 and have served on several national committees such as the EDUCAUSE Advisory Committee on Teaching and Learning and EDUCAUSE conference program committees.
I have a Bachelor of Arts in nursing from Luther College and a Master of Science in scientific and technical communication from the University of Minnesota. I am currently a Ph.D. student in rhetoric and scientific and technical communication. I enjoy presenting DMC work and my ideas about educational technology.
It is the convergence of people with the knowledge and skills in teaching and learning theory; teaching in virtual and physical spaces; information, graphic, and instructional design; multimedia and technology; and learning assessment and evaluation that make the DMC a vibrant place to work. I, along with the sixteen DMC educational technology specialists and research associates, enjoy presenting our work and ideas with others. Below are some recent presentations:
