Facilities

We operate two development facilities, one in Minneapolis and one in St. Paul. Instructors, staff and student assistants may use the hardware and software in our facilities to develop their educational technology projects. In addition, our experienced consultants are available to help. Instructors may meet with our planning and design and evaluation and assessment consultants in our Minneapolis office, our St. Paul office or their own campus offices. More details below.

Hardware and Software

Each facility has workstations with Macintosh or Windows operating systems. Flatbed scanners, slide scanners, and CD-ROM burners are also available, and several of the workstations are equipped to capture video.

We provide software applications for developing the following:

  • animation,
  • audio,
  • CD-ROM,
  • graphics,
  • presentations,
  • video, and
  • Web pages.

Consultant Services

DMC consultants are happy to assist you with our multimedia development hardware and software. We can demonstrate software and hardware usage and troubleshoot technical difficulties. However, we do not have the resources to perform production work for you.

Workstation Reservations

You may reserve one workstation a day for up to two hours. You may continue to use the workstation beyond this reservation until another client's reservation begins.

Client Check-In Appointments

We ask that all clients who want to meet with a consultant or work in the Minneapolis suite to make an appointment. While an appointment to use the St. Paul facility isn’t necessary, please check in with the attendant at the front desk. When using our facilities for the first time we will ask you to provide basic contact and University affiliation information for our database.

We maintain a database to

  • determine which equipment and workstations are used the most,
  • secure future funding for the facility (funding is client-based), and
  • inform clients when equipment and/or workstations are not working properly.

File Storage

We cannot offer file storage space on our workstations. Excessive file storage on the hard drive reduces the computer's memory and diminishes performance. After you are finished using our workstations, please make sure to remove all of your files.

Computer Classrooms

The Office of Information Technology operates several computer classrooms that you may rent to teach single-session or full-semester courses that focus on educational technology and require multimedia hardware and software.

Computer Classrooms are located on the East Bank, West Bank, and the campus in St. Paul. To reserve a computer classroom, call (612) 625-2005. For more information, see the University Technology Training Center classroom rental page.
