2009 Digital Teaching Workshop
Integrating Digital Audio and Video into Teaching and Learning
The Digital Teaching Workshop is sponsored by the Office of Information Technology (OIT) and managed by the OIT, Digital Media Center (DMC).
Who
The program is offered to faculty and professional and administrative (P&A) instructors at the University who would like to learn how to integrate digital audio and video into their teaching and/or reinvigorate and enhance their proficiencies in a technology-rich environment. The 2009 Digital Teaching Workshop is a collaboration of University Libraries staff, OIT, Digital Media Center trainers and consultants and Video Solutions and Application Support staff.
What
The theme of the 2009 Digital Teaching Workshop is "21st Century Literacies." Participants will develop a design plan and prototype for for an episode of a podcast, vodcast or enhanced podcast. Upon completion of the workshop participants have the option of designing and creating a course guide video with the support of DMC consultants and OIT, Video Solutions staff.
Why
By designing and creating a prototype of a podcast, vodcast or enhanced podcast, and through the completion of related learning activities, participants will develop greater understanding of how to integrate digital audio and video into their courses as well as basic technical proficiencies.
How
Over the course of a week and a half, instructors participate in an intensive workshop offered in a blended learning format. By the end of the workshop participants will:
- Develop a design plan for an audio, video or enhanced podcast grounded in best teaching and media practices
- Understand fundamentals of digital audio and video pre-production, recording, editing, and publication
- Be able to select media that are appropriate for their learning goals, activities and assessment
- Develop skills and knowledge to begin developing media-rich learning objects
- Design media-rich student assignments
- Know media technologies, resources and support available to them on campus
When
Registration opens in April. The workshop begins June 1, 2009 and ends June 10, 2009.
