Office of Information Technology

Philip M Kragnes

Adaptive Technology Specialist

My University of Minnesota career began in October 1998, when I was hired to head the Computer Accommodations Program (CAP) — a partnership of the Office of Information Technology (OIT) and Disability Services (DS). Services offered by CAP include the following:

  • Accessible Web design presentation, training, assessment and consultation;
  • Adaptive technology demonstration, evaluation, assessment, installation, training and support;
  • Information Technology accessibility policy development, consultation, and support;
  • Assess University employees with disabilities, their job functions, and appropriate technology accommodations;
  • Support Digital Media Center, Disability Services, and other university staff and faculty to ensure accessibility of technology use, acquisition, and development;
  • Identify and work to resolve University information and information technology access issues;
  • Consultation to University and non-University groups, organizations, and individuals regarding adaptive technology, Web site accessibility, and related issues;
  • Identify, evaluate, and procure new adaptive technology.

The Computer Accommodations Program exists to assist Eniversity students, faculty, staff and visitors with disabilities in accessing computers and information through the use of adaptive technology. In addition to providing training and consulting to University of Minnesota students and employees, I have trained over 300 State of Minnesota Web developers and numerous clients from entities such as Unisys, Walden University, US Bank, Federal Department of wildlife, and others.
