Ellen Thayer
Technology Training Consultant
I have been a helpline and training consultant for OIT for 23 years. My new focus is to provide application support for the Moodle course management learning environment, and to teach Moodle basics and custom courses. I taught Photoshop courses for 13 years and will continue to teach photo correction for the TA Web Certification program. I facilitate updating and/or developing a variety of short courses, with a focus on wiki and other collaboration tools. I also manage the Virtual Teachers Lounge, a Moodle site used for internal collaboration and as a repository for teaching and learning resources and policies for trainers.
Background
I have been interested in education long before and ever since receiving a BS in Elementary Education in 1969. I have taught in special education classrooms, on a psych ward at Abbott Hospital, and at an all-day kindergarten at the American School in Paris, 1978-1981. Starting with a Word processing course in Baltimore, Maryland in 1983, I have been teaching computer courses ever since. Along the way I have earned numerous certificates and an MA in Leadership from Augsburg College in 2000. Since 1991 I have been a member of Professional Association of Computer Trainers (PACT), which has been a great source of inspiration and keeping current with trends in teaching and learning with technology. I am delighted to be part of the transformation to online and collaborative learning.
My interests include reading, speaking French, traveling, and dancing Argentine tango.
