Paul Baepler
Academic Computing Assessment Specialist
I rejoined the DMC in September of 2008 as an Academic Computing Assessment Specialist. (I previously worked at the DMC in 1998. At that time, I worked on the original incarnation of the TA Web Certificate Program, the TEL grants, and on several technology initiatives.) My current role will be to help instructors and staff assess learning as they adopt new technologies.
Background
My background is in American literature, and my book White Slaves, African Masters (U of Chicago Press, 1999) explores the little-known Barbary captivity narrative. Two short non-academic pieces appear in Thus Spake the Corpse: An Exquisite Corpse Reader 1988-1998 (Ed. Andrei Codrescu, Black Sparrow Press, 1999). Previously at the University, I worked at the Center for Teaching and Learning as an instructional consultant. I was the founding editor of the newsletter Transform, a bi-annual publication that explores the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL). At that time, I also worked with the DMC on the Innovative Teaching and Technology Strategies Bush Grant. I recently completed the Technology Enhanced Learning Certificate in Multimedia Design and Development in the department of curriculum and instruction.
